What the source record says
Academic HPC facility in the Thad Cochran Research, Technology and Economic Development Park. Houses the NOAA-funded Orion supercomputer — a Dell-EMC system described at its 2019 ribbon-cutting as 28 cabinets, 72,000 processing cores and 350 TB of RAM at 5 petaFLOPS, then the fourth-fastest system in U.S. academia. MSU separately broke ground in May 2023 on a 35,000-square-foot, $45 million High Performance Computing Data Center in the same park, expected to be finished in 2025; no source read this session confirms that building's completion, so it is NOT recorded as a separate facility and no capacity is asserted for it here. Coordinates are the OpenStreetMap building point for the High Performance Computing Collaboratory at 2 Research Boulevard. Distinct site from cspire-starkville-ms, which is a commercial colocation facility elsewhere in the same park.
Any MW value is reproduced as source-reported context. Its measurement boundary is not established consistently enough for comparison. Unknown is not zero.
